HOW TO HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS

'Tis the Season...

How often do we hear that phrase or think it for ourselves? The proof is everywhere — stores and lamp posts are decorated, Christmas tree lots have sprung up on every corner, the music of the season is playing everywhere you go. For many, rather than being signs of joy, they are reminders of what they won't have this year. As we play Santa for those who are special in our lives, make our lists and check them twice, there are many moms and dads who have no way to provide anything on their children's lists. A broken car, being laid off from work, an unexpected medical expense can devastate those living with fragile budgets. We watch the snow gently falling from the warmth of our homes not thinking of those who can't pay their electric bill or are facing eviction. We bake Christmas cookies and anticipate preparing the bounty of a Christmas dinner never thinking of those who haven't eaten that day or the evening before.

There is a place for these folks to turn to — it's Food Link. We provide assistance for those families who are unable to be helped by traditional support systems, don't qualify for traditional support systems, and have no where else to turn. We will have families come to us until the last minute. How can you help? You can call the office to adopt a family or provide something from the list below. Not only do we have individuals who help but companies as well. This year as in past years companies such as ARINC, Northrop Grumman, PMG, Gateway Title and others have become generous caring elves for families in need. No matter what you may do, no matter how small you think your gesture may be, remember it will touch a life — not a small thing at all!!!

Gift cards to "all purpose" stores such as Target, Walmart, K-Mart
Gift cards to Best Buy
Gift cards to Bath & Body Works
Gift cards to Old Navy
Gift cards to Lane Bryant or larger size stores
Gift cards to Modell's or a sporting goods store
Gifts that cover a myriad of ages such as footballs, nerf toys, portable cd players, board games, cards, socks, stockings that can be filled for elderly and teens
(Often we have teenagers in need so the above-referenced items will work for them)
